Anyway,
Mark and I got up a little earlier than anticipated to get to the National Park before 8AM. It was recommended in one of the Gettysburg sites we visited. Temps in the 80s and the crowds get bigger as the day goes on. We toured the Museum and then took a 9:30 bus tour around the battlefield. The tour guide was great and we learned an awful lot about the strategies used and the whys and wherefores of who won what battle. We had finished there about 1:00 but you could spend days around this place learning about this battle. I think I'd like to learn more about the civil war. Who knows. I ran in to a family at the lobby and this family comes here several times a year.
Gettysburg is a very nice town with lots of nice places to eat, but too far from the hotel to be able to take advantage of them, being on the bike and all.
We ran into several motorcyclists, all interested in Mark's Triumph. How old, how big, where'd you get it. Still made in the UK?
Tomorrow we are off to Canton, Ohio. Another 270 mile day, which doesn't seem far, but seems to tak 10 hours on the road given our back roads.

Gettysburg 06/29/09
Despite it being a good day to sleep in, we got up early enough to be at the national park by 8 AM. We toured the new (built in 2008) visitors center then took a bus tour of the battleground. Really great and very informative. One could spend a few days, rather than just one, here. Ran in to a few fellow motorcyclists who had something to say about Mark's triumph. Staying at the Day's Inn which is recommended.
Tomorrow we are finally on Route 30, The Lincoln Highway, and will be in Canton, Oh tomorrow.

Saturday and Sunday 062709 and 062809
We've made it to Gettysburg!
Yesterday, 062709, we left the house about 6:30AM after a visit from cousin Sarah Jane, pal John Friedler and other pal and motorcycle confidant Rob Bergh.
Rob has been instrumental in setting up Mark's Triumph with several farkles including crash bars, w2indshield and CB radio. Rob stayed with us as far as Route 140 just over 495 near Bellingham.
I had the GPS set to keep us off all highways, so we did a lot of hilling and daling thereafter. Most of the roads were good adn entertaining. We had a nice lunch in Brimfield, and kept going west and south and west and south and so on. It seemed to take a lot longer than it should have, and we had one good rain downpour in the Granville area. We took route 57 then south to 44 and in to NY on 199. The evening was at the Sky Top Motel (now a Rodeway Inn) with a steakhouse on the same property. We were both beat but went over for a light supper (chieckn fingers for Mark and Cheicken Caesar for me) I also had two glasses of cabernet; back to the room and asleep by 10!
Today, 062809 we left Kingston, NY and the Rodeway about 7AM on Route 209 which we were able to stay on for about 200 miles to Millersburg, PA., Route 209 has some absolutely wonderful riding and runs through the Delaware River Gap. We made okay time despite the great roads, should have been faster but we're staying within traffic which is generally about the posted limit on these secondary and back roads.
Breakfast was in Huegenot, NY at Try-My-Deli. Two eggs, homefries, bacon (3 slices of good stuff) and toast for $2.99!
New York was really beautiful with a lot of horse country and generally looking pretty prosperous. Pennsylvania had some really nice medium-sized towns with apparent prosperity, but many of the old mill and factory towns are not in good shape. We didn't see outward poverty, just deferred maintenance. Lunch was a slice of pizza and a coke on the fly at Marco's pizza. Then off to Millersburg which remains a really nice town. We didn't check out the ferry over the Susquehana River just because we were ready to get to Gettysburg and had 60 miles to go.
Tonight we are at a Day's Inn with a Perkins (no liquor license) restaurant adjacent. I will take a look tomorrow to see if I can find a restaurant nearby to get a pop or two and still be able to walk back to the hotel.
The room is very nice and we've got free wifi.
Tomorrow we are off to Gettysburg proper to check out the battle grounds and get in a little history.

Out to Launch
6:30 a.m.
Craig and Mark left the house with their bikes fully loaded - skateboard and all. Family friends Mr. Friedler (in his MGB) and Mr. Bergh (riding his BMW) escorted them down the mid-cape highway and then some. Mom was teary and prayed "a dios" that all would be well.
