A city "Central" is not, but we had a nice time getting here.
Today we rode 270 miles, just about to hit 1900 on this trip.
We left Ames about 710 this morning. I had gotten up early and went to the 24hr Kum & Go up the street to gas up both bikes. We rode west on I30 which quickly turned in to two-lane tarmac just outside of Ames. It being Sunday morning, we had much of the road to ourselves. Sunny and in the high 60s, the ride to Carroll, IA was extremely nice and the riding remained the same throughout the day,.
The flat cornfields turned in to rolling hills the further west we got. Lots and lots of wind turbines generating clean energy and quite majestic on the hillsides. There was a quirky Lincoln Highway monument on the way, looked more like the Stonehenge of Iowa rather than a tribute to the old road.
We stopped for breakfast about 70 miles down the road from Ames in the town of Carroll. The GPS said there was a Denny's which turned out to be a steakhouse. Mark suggested we stop and ask a lady out for her morning power walk who recommded Sam's. Another great breakfast on the road with sunnyside up and sausage pattie for me; bacon, cheese and egg on an english for Mark.
Back on the road a little after nine, we came across the weathered barn Mark has been looking for. Took some pics. We crossed the Missouri River just east of Blair, NE, entering our tenth state of the trip.
Much of our route today ran parallel to the Union & Pacific rail lines so we saw at least four freight trains, each seemingly a mile long. We waived and honked but no response.
Lots of motorcylists out today for their Sunday rides, as well.
Nothing really monumental today, except that we had a really nice ride and managed to check in at the Super 8 at ab out 3PM. Mark's still taking a nap while I sit outside in 80 degreee, sunny weather typing away. I took a quick ride up the street on the Triumph and got some nice photos of the State Theatre. Hangover is playing tonight at 745 and its just up the street, so maybe a movie and burger at DQ.
